Police Clearance Certificate from Pakistan
The Police Clearance Certificate is a Pakistani police document, and that single fact explains everything else about it. The consulate does not issue it, cannot issue it, and has no way to make it arrive faster.
Its own guidance says so without softening it: this Consulate General has no means to expedite this process. The certificate is only issued after clearance comes back from the relevant police office in Pakistan.
What to submit
- Your original application, signed and dated.
- The period you lived in Pakistan.
- Your correct address in Pakistan, so the police there know where to carry out the verification. This is the field that delays files, because a vague or outdated address means nobody can complete the check.
- Three sets of photographs, for the original certificate.
- A copy of your Pakistani passport, CNIC or NICOP.
- The application form, completed and signed.
- A prepaid return envelope if you are applying by mail. The consulates prefer US Postal Service.
- A money order or cashier's check for $30, payable to the consulate.
Why it takes as long as it does
The file leaves the United States, a police office in Pakistan carries out a verification at the address you gave, and the result comes back. Nothing in that sequence is under the consulate's control, and nobody can put a reliable date on it.
If a visa application, a job offer or an immigration deadline depends on this certificate, start it early. It is the one procedure on this site where paying more does not buy speed, because there is no urgent track to pay for.
A note on the address
People who left Pakistan as children often give a family address they have not lived at for decades. That is usually fine, as long as somebody there can respond to a police visit. An address where nobody can be reached will stall the file with no notification that anything is wrong.
Applying by mail
Most people never attend for this one, because there is nothing a counter adds. Include the prepaid return envelope, use a tracked service, and keep copies of the whole file. If it goes missing in the post, you start again from the beginning.
The office that handles your case is the one covering where you live. That matters less than usual here, because the file leaves the country either way, but sending it to the wrong consulate adds weeks for nothing.
What the certificate is usually for
Immigration applications, foreign work permits and some professional registrations all ask for one. Every one of those comes with its own deadline, and none of them accommodates a verification that has not come back yet.
Three things that make the wait longer
- An address nobody answers at. The verification is a physical visit. If the family has moved and nobody is reachable, the file sits without notification.
- An incomplete period of residence. Gaps in the dates you lived in Pakistan mean the check cannot be scoped, and the file comes back for clarification.
- A name that does not match. If your US documents and your Pakistani documents show different spellings, resolve that before applying rather than after.

Running them in parallel is the only way to compress a timeline that this certificate otherwise controls.
