Philippine Consulate in Rio Rancho, NM
There is no Philippine consulate in Rio Rancho, and the consulate that covers it, the Philippine Consulate General in Houston, is not a casual trip: 867 miles away, about 15 h 51 min by road. That makes the order of this page deliberate: first what you can do from Rio Rancho without travelling, then what genuinely requires the counter.
Where Rio Rancho is served from
Jurisdiction runs by state, and New Mexico, all of it, is assigned to Houston. The same consulate covers Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas. See the New Mexico page for the rest of the state's cities and distances.
From Rio Rancho the consulate is 867 miles and 15 h 51 min away by road, far enough that most residents wait for an outreach mission instead, and are right to.
Watch for consular outreach missions before committing to the full journey. Consulates travel to underserved cities with passport biometrics and dual citizenship ceremonies; the appointments cost nothing, and for somewhere this far from the consulate a mission is usually the practical route. How they are booked is in the appointment guide.
What never requires the journey
The most common wasted journey in this system is for a document the consulate cannot produce. There are three of them:
- PSA documents, the security-paper certificates everything else depends on, are ordered online and shipped internationally.
- Apostilles on American documents come from the issuing state’s competent authority. Since 15 May 2019 the consulate cannot authenticate them.
- The NBI clearance is issued in the Philippines. The consulate’s only part is notarising your fingerprint card.
What does require appearing in person is anything biometric or signed: a passport, the oath of allegiance and a special power of attorney signed before a consular officer.
philippineconsulates.us is an independent information guide to the Philippine consulates in the United States. We are not the Philippine Consulate General, the Philippine Embassy or any government agency. We do not book, sell or manage appointments: every consulate runs its own system. We check the details regularly, but they can change without notice, always confirm with the consulate before you travel.
